Plans to boost Welsh medium education for upper Swansea Valley pupils
PLANS to increase the number of pupils receiving Welsh medium education in the upper Swansea Valley have been unveiled.
Powys Council has said it intends to strengthen the delivery of Welsh-medium education across Powys, and the authority's cabinet has approved a revised Welsh education strategic plan from early years through to post-16.
The revised plan prioritises increasing the number of Welsh medium pupils in the early years and primary sectors, and improving the Welsh medium curriculum offer for secondary and post-16 pupils.
Cabinet member for learning and leisure, Myfanwy Alexander, said: "We wanted to make sure all learners in Powys have access to the highest-quality provision through the medium of Welsh, and we need to work with schools and our partner organisations to help us deliver this aim.

“When pupils don't speak this language at home or in their communities, it'll be money thrown down the drain. Sadly there is not much education authorities can do, in saving the Welsh language, especially now we find it to be unsustainable according to the recent consensus. Throwing money at it will just not work. I would much prefer to see Bilingual alternatives, to be fully implemented.”
