PEMBREY Country Park could be "irreparably damaged" by a three-day music festival expected to take place this summer, furious community leaders have claimed.

The stark warning came after Carmarthenshire Council's executive board last week agreed to back the proposed June event "in principle". Organisers of Beach Break Live can now apply to the authority for an events licence in anticipation of a favourable hearing.

But the news has angered Pembrey and Burry Port town councillors, who have vowed to keep up their fight to stop the festival.

In a letter to the Star, they stated: "Members feel this event will have a catastrophic, long-lasting impact on the communities of Pembrey and Burry Port.

"We feel it would cause a severe and adverse impact on residents through noise, nuisance and general disruption."

Beach Break Live offers a range of activities, including sports, games, dance, arts and theatre, alongside music, bars and food.

According to the county council, the event would attract up to 15,000 young people to the area this summer, rising to 20,000 the following year and 25,000 the year after that. This year, it could generate £2.2 million from ticket sales alone, with a portion going to Carmarthenshire Council for the hire of the park.
