Plaid vow to continue to fight for a fair settlement for benefit claimants at spring conference
A WELSH MP has vowed that his party will continue to fight for a fair settlement for benefit claimants.
Plaid MP Hywel Williams has said that the disabled, those on low incomes and the unemployed will be left with nowhere to turn when the cuts come in April.
At the party's spring conference in Beaumaris, the Arfon MP highlighted the injustice of the bedroom tax, and said that while household incomes are constrained and while homelessness continues to rise dramatically, the bedroom tax will have extremely damaging consequences for the people of Wales. Mr Williams said disabled people will have to choose between heating, eating or paying the rent.
"The bedroom tax is a devastating policy that will come into effect in April affecting 660,000 people, and 40,000 of them in Wales," he said. "It's important to note that those who claim benefits are not 'shirkers' — the majority of them are in work, on low wages, and facing increased rent charges. That's why Plaid Cymru has been leading the calls for a fairer settlement.

“The Forces are paid 24 hours a day over 7 days a Week
So when they Parade our streets on Ceremonial Duties
It costs the Forces nothing it is considered part of their Duties
When you work out their wages they do not get the minimum wage
Well done forces lads you doing a good job which most people recognise”

“I think it's just awful that the poorest in our society are being made to pay for the mistakes of the rich. And now on top of it all the defense minister wants to cut back even more on the welfare budget to support the army. I wouldn't mind but virtually every week in the post there is an article on our soldiers marching up and down and all over the place, the latest being in Swansea over the weekend. How much did that little jolly cost!, and we keep on hearing that the army is skint. It's no wonder with all these little days out, all of course paid for with my taxes. As a tax payer i demand value from my hard earned money, and i demand it now!!!”
