Pitch parking battle on match days at Liberty Stadium in Swansea
RESIDENTS in Cwmbwrla and Manselton have added their voices to protests about thoughtless drivers parking on their roads on match days.
Last month the Evening Post reported how many residents are trapped in their homes by cars parked over their driveways or access lanes, mainly when the Swans play at home.

And the issue was raised at a Cwmbwrla Pact meeting, held at Manselton Community Centre, which on match days is almost bathed in the reflected light from the Liberty Stadium's floodlights. Residents say not enough is done by police to book cars parked dangerously or illegally, and council traffic wardens who can ticket those parked in residents' bays and on yellow lines.
One resident said: "I came out of the match on New Year's Day and there were 10 cars parked obstructing the pavement. There was a policeman there who just did nothing."
"I've got to admit the wardens are in evidence during the match — but they don't seem to do anything."
The resident said problem areas included Cwm Level Road and Pentre Mawr Road.
"It's one massive car park," he added. "You can't go about your normal business, you can't have visitors come to stay on a Saturday."
Residents added that if the park and ride car park charge was reduced from £5, more people would be persuaded to park there rather than on residential streets.
A spokesman for the Liberty Stadium said: "Stadium Management are aware of the concerns and as previously reported, there is currently a full review of the existing travel plan being undertaken."
Local councillor Viv Wharton told the residents he would ask a representative from Swansea Council who deals with parking enforcement to attend a future Pact meeting.
The next Pact meeting will be at Montana Park Community Centre, on March 1, at 6pm.

“Why not just close those roads to non-residents on match day. I'm sure SCFC could afford to pay a few stewards to man the entrances to the street.”

“Come on Holley, even a man of your inferior intelligence can sort this one out. Big car park/Gypsies Doh! Operate more park and ride and for gods sake reduce the scandalous prices.”

“I wont park my car at the Park and Ride site at Swansea Vale because of the gypsies that occupy the same site (and have done, illegally for over a year).
I can always find a parking space near to the stadium by paying £5. The ones who seem to be causing the problems for the local residents seem to be the ones who want to park for free.
Where are the traffic wardents when the Swans and Ospreys are playing at home ?
The lack of public transport is also a joke especially at the end of a night match .”

“swansea streets are micky mouse compared to cardiff!
the car parking in the capitol is far superior ,I have ever had trouble finding a place,in the week,or,the weekend there,WHY,
because being a capitol,it has to give a lot of land to car parking because of the tourist trade, sporting events,etc..Swansea on the other hand is a lot smaller than cardiff, gets a lot less tourism,A lot less sporting events,Oh,and a council that sells off most of the spare land so thats why this town(sorry-small city) has no decent parking! You think of it!
the large retail stores have more parking places than the whole of swansea council!!”

“Well if the Council reduced their parking charges from £5 to something more reasonable say £2.50 the same as park n ride then more people would use the parking areas.”

“I wonder what the council reaction would be if it was somewhere like Derwen Fawr that was affected rather than the scruffy Eastside?”

“there's an ample big car park at the landore park and ride site next to the copperworks for suppporters to use just across the road from the liberty stadium.
questions that need to be answered are why the bendy buses don't run in the evenings and on bank holiday mondays when the swans are playing matches ? why aren't the bendy buses running more often on saturdays like they do on weekdays ? what's the point of having these bendy buses if they aren't being used when they are needed ?”

“as laura [alltwen]made comment regarding planning you build an exstention on your home for an extra bedroom planning dictates you need extra space for another car so how did they get away with it i feel very sory for local residents can somebody from this newspaper ask the council these questions on behalf of the public”

“In Cardiff there are match day parking restrictions in all the streets close to the football stadium that are rigorously enforced by the police.
Why can't we have similar in Swansea?”

“I travel down infrequently for home matches, yet always manage to find somewhere to park thats not blocking anyones driveway. The residents have a right not to have their drives blocked or to be abused but on the other hand if there are no restrictions to park there then I see no reason why I nor anyone else should park there.”
