HIGHWAYS officials have agreed to look at calls for traffic-calming measures on a Carmarthen estate.

Carmarthenshire Council executive board member for environment Haydn Jones has received a petition from John Colling of Sycamore Way and signed by hundreds of residents from the Wauniago estate living in Ash Grove, Beech Road, Maple Crescent and Sycamore Way.

The residents are calling on Carmarthenshire County Council to seriously investigate concerns about speeding traffic and the danger to pedestrians from vehicles travelling through the estate.

Mr Colling, along with Carmarthen mayor Alan Speake, presented the petition to the county council on July 14.

Since new housing was built at Trem y Coleg, off College Road, residents feel traffic in the area has increased.

Mr Colling, 50, said: "The important thing is to slow it down a bit, otherwise somebody is going to get killed."

Councillor Jones added: "I will hand this petition to officers, who will investigate and come back to me with a report."
