CARMARTHENSHIRE Council needs to stamp out the "horrendous" conditions dogs are kept in at some county puppy farms, according to thousands of people across the UK.

Animal rights campaigner Jan Gilmour organised a 4,000-signature petition calling on the authority to tackle the problem.

"It's disgusting these animals are kept like this," she claimed.

Carmarthenshire has 90 licensed farms according to Jan — more than the rest of Wales put together.

"There is money in selling dogs and Carmarthen is a good place as it's easy to transport dogs down the M4 or across to Ireland."

Jan claims the dogs often die at a young age or have long-term health problems.
