A HOUSE closed because it was not fit for people to live in can be reopened after 37 years.

Officers from the old Lliw Valley Borough Council served the closure order on 21 Owens Lane in Godre'rgraig in 1976.

A request by its new owners led to Neath Port Talbot Council carrying out an inspection.

According to a report going to councillors this week, it was found to be in good condition.

The report stated: "Historically there are a number of properties in the borough which are still subject to closing orders, served many years ago, which have subsequently been renovated and reoccupied.

"Officers often only become aware of these upon a change of ownership or via a service request regarding an unrelated matter."

Councillors will be asked to rescind the 1976 order.
