Peachy Keens restaurant in Swansea admits hygiene breaches

CITY centre restaurant Peachy Keens has admitted failing to protect food from contamination which could have left it unfit for people to eat.

One World Buffet, which runs the restaurant in Little Wind Street, Swansea, pleaded guilty to four charges of breaching food hygiene rules at Swansea Magistrates' Court.

Prosecutors decided not to proceed with five other charges.

The company said the problems were inherited and when inspectors visited on November 8, 2011, they had only taken over a number of weeks before.

Charges against the company's director, Anand Prakash, 39, were withdrawn by prosecutors.

The company pleaded guilty to four breaches of the Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations 2006.

It admitted failing to keep the food premises clean and maintained in good repair and condition.

The second charge was that it failed to ensure that all articles, fittings and equipment with which food came into contact with were effectively cleaned and were disinfected.

The third charge the company admitted was that it failed to ensure that all stages of production, processing and distribution were protected against any contamination, likely to render the food unfit for human consumption.

The fourth charge was that the company failed to put in place, implement and maintain a permanent procedure based on HACCP — food hygiene — principles.

Speaking after the hearing, at Swansea Magistrates' Court, Mr Prakash said: "These occurred about a year ago when, a very short time before, we had taken over the restaurant. We inherited structural issues from the old company and there have been very extensive interventions since. There are no longer any issues."

The company will be sentenced at a hearing in front of magistrates on November 26.
