CONFIDENTIAL patient data has been found piled up in a hospital corridor.

A spot check has revealed files upon files were discovered near the entrance of Morriston Hospital's dental outpatients department by members of Swansea Community Health Council (CHC).

They alerted staff of their concerns over the find, only to be told porters would be moving the pile to a secure room.

But when the members returned to the entrance they discovered the data had not been removed and that the pile had grown in size.

“Makes a change from patients being "left in corridors on trolleys." There always seems to be an excuse for incompetence by the nhs, regardless of who is to blame. The blaze' attitude of "it will get sorted eventually" is not good enough. or passing the buck to the porters. I wonder if this would happen in a BUPA hospital? i doubt it.”

“Whats the point of having Data Protection laws when Public Sector bodies such as the NHS, are incapable, it seems, of protecting the information gathered on Patients and the government and the Regulator, it seems, are doing nothing to enforce the relevant Data Protection Acts!?”

“It's beyond me, I just don't understand how this could happen. You can only put it down to negligence by those employed to do a "so called" job. If you are that careless in your job then you should be sacked.”

“You know what? the porters will be blamed. Its the same the world over. Im a 'Porter' and we are always under staffed. We have so many jobs to do in a day, its not possible to do all. One porter to look after 30 patients plus is an impossibility some days. I admit, it doesnt look good having patients records on view for just anyone to look at. The holier than thou' attitude of admin staff needs to be looked into.”
