Park and ride is the answer
I HAVE just read the letter in today's Evening Post regarding matchday parking near the Liberty Stadium. I have great empathy for the residents who live near the stadium and I agree with the person who wrote the letter, that it will take some catastrophe before anything gets done.
My husband and I attend Swansea City matches at the Liberty and parking is a huge issue. It necessitates arriving at the ground at least two hours before kick-off if you are to have any chance of parking. Years ago a park and ride service ran from St Helen's to the Liberty which was brilliant and I truly believe that this is the way forward, particularly when the stadium is extended and even more people will be trying to park in and around it. For some reason the service was discontinued and never restarted.

When we went to see Swansea play at Southampton last November, a park and ride scheme was in operation there and it was fantastic. We parked in a field on the outskirts of Southampton and a small fleet of buses were waiting and as soon as one filled up, we were taken to the football ground and dropped right outside. As soon as the game was over, the buses were once more waiting for us and we were taken back to our car. It was extremely efficient and made the day much more enjoyable.
I believe that more park and rides schemes in and around the city on match days would be beneficial.

“I'm afraid you'll find that spaces for caravans, to be more important than Park and Ride schemes, around our city centre or for home and away supporters, to the Liberty.”
