PARENTS and carers who have gone back to the classroom to help their children succeed have been honoured for their efforts.

They received certificates from Swansea Council to pay tribute to their efforts in the Family Learning and Essential Skills programme.

The programme teaches parents and carers how to support their children with their schoolwork. Mike Day, council cabinet member for education, said: "We know that parents need and want to play a major role in supporting their children's learning and Family Learning is helping hundreds of families a year to do just that.

"All the parents and carers who take part should be very proud of their commitment and achievements. We are also very grateful to the heads and representatives of all our schools and partner organisations that have helped us to make the Family Learning and Essential Skills programme such a success."
