Pals' tributes to Swansea football stalwart Jon Williams killed in crash
TRIBUTES have been paid to a football-mad Clydach man killed in a late-night car crash.
The driver, named locally as 31-year-old Jon Williams, died when his Vauxhall Astra hit a wall on Ynys-Penllwch Road in the village just after 1am yesterday.
Police are appealing for anybody with information about the crash — or anyone who stopped at the roadside to offer assistance — to come forward.
Dozens of tributes have been paid to Mr Williams — a stalwart of Winch Wen-based Wales Tartan FC and known as JonBallz to his friends — on the social media site, Facebook. He previously attended the college in Neath and Cwmtawe Comprehensive School.
Yasmin Bird wrote: "RIP Jon, so sad, you will never be forgotten, thoughts with the family at this sad time x."
Elizabeth Sarah said: "Still trying to get my head around it RIP Jon you'll be missed so much x."
Simon Matthews said: "You can tell how much you were loved by how many tears are shed when you pass.
"For JonBallz Williams another ocean has been made. Always born to be a unique character — will always be remembered and missed."
Another friend, Amy Key, said he was a "lovely, genuine guy" who would be missed by many people, while Lee Lewis described him as an "absolute legend" and said he was proud to have called him a friend.
South Wales Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and are appealing to witnesses to come forward. A spokesman said: "South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 1.10am on Sunday at the B4291 Ynys-Penllwch Road, Clydach.
"A Vauxhall Astra motor car was travelling along Ynys-Penllwch Road when it collided with a wall at the location.
"The driver of the motor vehicle suffered fatal injuries."
