Pair airlifted to hospital after getting caught in Gower rip tide
TWO people were airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon after becoming caught in a rip tide off a popular Gower beach.
Horton inshore lifeboat, Oxwich Coastguard Rescue Team and a SeaKing helicopter from RAF Chivenor in Devon were scrambled to Three Cliffs Bay just after 2.30pm.
A Swansea Coastguard spokesman said the pair had managed to get themselves out of the sea by the time the rescuers got to the scene.
He said: "We received reports of two persons caught in the rip tide in Three Cliffs Bay.
"The two people were airlifted to Morriston Hospital to be checked over."
Latest figures from the RNLI show that the number of lifeboat launches around UK in July was up by a third compared to the same period last year.
