MEMBERS of a community hall committee in the Gwendraeth Valley are calling on the public to keep them cooking in a new kitchen.

Cefneithin and Foelgastell Welfare Hall, which is run by a committee of volunteers, is in desperate need of building materials to rebuild and refurbish its kitchen area — and has taken inspiration from TV home improvements show DIY SOS in an attempt to make it happen.

Events co-ordinator and bookings clerk Linsey Perry said: "For those who haven't seen it, it's that fab programme where they get members of the community to pull together and help out with building materials and anything else needed to refurbish, rebuild or replace things in their homes, so we figured we'd give this a shot.

"Of course, it's without the help of the lovely Nick Knowles — though if he and his team are free, we would welcome them with open arms."

Though the committee is currently applying for a grant for the work, they said it could be a long process and were calling on anyone who could donate a former display kitchen or their own unwanted units.

"We would be forever grateful," added Linsey. "It doesn't need to be new, just in good condition. The one that we currently have in place is falling apart at the seams and is becoming more and more unsightly every day."

Calls have also been made for members of the public to help refurbish the kitchen when the materials do become available.

The committee has also appealed for help via its Facebook page, Y Neuadd.

Since a new committee was formed two years ago, the hall has become the hub of the community.

Previously only used by a long-standing gymnastic group, it now hosts a sewing club, karate club and two Zumba classes a week, along with a number of other events including fetes and seasonal parties.

It has also set up an annual summer event, Parti Cornel Carwyn.

Anyone who can help the hall is asked to email cefneithinhall@gmail.com or speak to any member of the committee.
