A LOUGHOR pub has been given the go-ahead to open into the early hours, despite objections from neighbours.

Wynford and Battistina Jones, who run the Globe Inn, in Glebe Road, put forward their bid to sell alcohol later on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at a meeting of Swansea Council's licensing sub-committee.

The committee voted to grant the application with a number of conditions.

The pub was granted permission to supply alcohol until 1am between Thursday and Saturday.

A letter of objection to the application was sent to the council by Miss E Brown, of Glebe Road, who said residents already suffer from blaring music coming from the pub and disruption caused by the customers leaving between 11.30pm and midnight.

"To allow an extension to 1am is totally unacceptable," she said.

"The majority of residents around the pub are full-time workers and being kept awake by raucous shouts, banging car doors and hooting taxis is bad enough at 11.30pm but will be even more intolerable in the early hours of the morning."

Mr Jones said he had a lovely clientele and that he would attempt to make sure people entered and left the pub in an orderly fashion.

"We are concerned about the welfare of our neighbours and we are trying to make sure they are not disturbed," he said.

The committee approved the application with a number of conditions.

These include the installation of CCTV and that the designated premises supervisor or premises licence holder must take steps e to prevent a noise nuisance at any neighbouring properties during the hours of operation.
