Ospreys prop Dmitri Arhip out for six months with Achilles injury
DIMITRI Arhip faces up to six months on the sidelines after suffering a major ankle injury in the Ospreys' pre-season friendly with Bath.
The Moldovan prop ruptured an Achilles tendon in his side's 27-10 defeat at The Recreation Ground and could be sidelined until February or March.
It is especially cruel fortune for the popular tight-head, who had been making his first full appearance for the Welsh region after nine outings as a replacement.
Head coach Steve Tandy said: "Dimitri has ruptured his Achilles and is probably looking at four to six months out.
"It's extremely disappointing.
"Bath may have had the edge on us up front in the scrums, but it was Dimitri's first start and with the work he did around the park, putting in some really physical tackles, I feel there's a bright future for him."
The Ospreys have tight-head options in Joe Rees, Nicky Thomas and Daniel Suter, while Adam Jones is working his way back after his exertions with the Lions and Aaron Jarvis is on the mend after a serious knee injury.
