THE Ospreys have confirmed they have secured the signing of scrum-half Ricky Januarie, who will be added to their Heineken Cup squad in time for December's double header against Viadana.

The 27-year old Springbok has agreed a three-month loan with the region, which has been approved by the WRU, to provide emergency cover in the scrum-half position with all three named scrum-halves in the Ospreys European squad ruled out through long term injury.

With Mike Phillips likely to be missing for another three months, Jamie Nutbrown suffering from a damaged cruciate ligament and Tom Isaacs ruled out for the season after a shoulder operation, Shane Williams has been left as the only possible scrum-half cover in the Heineken Cup squad.

Januarie, who has 40 caps for South Africa, will arrive in the region at the start of December, ahead of the Viadana fixtures on December 12 and 19.

“Jerry not Richie - yes Sorry - D`oh!

My point was there must be other flankers playing in Wales, why are we employling (at vast expense) an ex-All Black.

I understand the teams mentioned fall under The Dragons regional catchment area, but the same thing applies around here too.”

“I meant Jerry Collins, of course, not Richie (so did you, probably). One is a legendary 28-yr-old All Black; the other is a 50-yr-old Caaardiff copper (last time I looked).”

“By the way, Richard Baber. Ebbw Vale, Tredegar and Blackwood are well outside the Ospreylian region. If they were inside, they would be included in a range of activities for coaches, players and supporters.
Your views on the usefullness of Richie Collins, one of the finest rugby players of hs generation and a man who has slogged his guts out every week while playing in a losing team of youngsters, suggest that you don't appreciate many of the finer points of our wonderful national game.”

“I`ve read a few of the other responses on the other news report and i simpathise (sp) with "true Ospreys fans" that they want to see their team win.

But I don`t see what some of these foreign players have added to our game, other than Richie Collins showing us week-in, week-out how to cheat and play on the wrong side of a ruck.........

I speak to guys from Ebbevale, Tredegar, Blackwood, etc quite regularly and they say that the regional scouts don`t visit their clubs at all, I think that speaks volumes.”

“It's a ridiculous situation that Wales were unable to call on the services of Dwayne Peel because he plays in England, while our sham regions splash the money they receive off the WRU on expensive foreign rejects.

It's time the WRU cut the funding to regions who squander cash on players who are no use to the Welsh cause, and as we all know the Ospreys will end the season trophy less once again despite their team WRU funded mercenaries.
They are the original "big time charlies".”
