Opening night is getting closer
HELLO Everyone! Hope you have all had a great week. Here is this week's blog from Hairspray - the rehearsals.
Sunday morning, up bright and early as rehearsals start at 10am today. All the cast are very excited as it's our first rehearsals that we have had in the theatre. This really helps to build up enthusiasm for the show as the opening night is getting closer. I need to go over what we did last week as well as run through my songs before even getting there. After getting ready and having a quick slice of toast I grabbed my script; I only had time to go through it once or twice before it was time to leave.
We started class with a warm up, but today instead of a game we did a fitness warm up to get us ready for a full run through of all the dance numbers. It really helps get our blood pumping and prepare us for the hard day ahead.
As I mentioned last week, the director Mark wants to work on detail today to make sure that everything is perfect. We worked on the blocking of my scenes as well as the detail of the dances. The Blocking was not as easy as I thought, because I had to remember exactly where I was placed in order for it to be the same every time. We then went through the detail in the dances and it got harder the more we did it, because of the energy needed. We worked on precise movements and by the end it looked great!
After working on the detail and cleaning up a lot of the dance numbers, we ran through all the group dance numbers including 'Welcome to the 60s', 'Run and Tell that' and 'You can't stop the beat'. These numbers looked and sounded great in the theatre!
We had a break for lunch but many of the cast members spent their lunch running through lines and perfecting their songs as straight after lunch we started a run through of the show. There was a real buzz in the air because this was the first time we would run through the show on the stage.
The run through went well but still lots of work to do. Mark gave us all lots of notes to take away and work on ready for the run through next week!
That's it for today, lots to work on for next week!
Next week, the musical director will be here and we will be working on harmonies again to ensure that everyone is blending together. It will be really interesting to see if anything changes now that we are in the theatre. I know it's going to be difficult, but this is a challenge I am excited to face!!
