Online chance to secure child school place
HUNDREDS of Swansea parents are being urged to go online during next week's half- term holiday to apply for a secondary school place for their child.
There is just over a month to go before the application deadline.
Parents of pupils in the final year (year six) of primary or junior school need to apply for a secondary school place for their child.
And following the success of online applications last year, Swansea Council is urging parents to do the same this year.
Cabinet member for learning and skills William Evans said: "We know the transfer from primary to secondary school education can be an anxious time for parents and we find this system makes it easier for parents to submit their bid for a place on time.
"I am delighted that families are already taking up the chance of applying online and I am sure they found it easier than they first thought.
"Families can be reassured that if they have not got access to the web or they think they may need support to make an application online they will be able to make applications at their local school, local library or at the contact centre and help will be provided if needed."
More than 2,500 letters went out to families across Swansea with a unique identification number for their child to help make the process easier and more than 50 per cent of parents have already applied through the online system.
The remaining families are being reminded the deadline for applications for pupils applying for a place in secondary school in September 2014 is November 28.
