Stanford, then a promising teenager, was mentored by the double Olympic champion at her very first On Camp with Kelly training camp in Potchefstroom, South Africa eight years ago.

Holmes said: "The journey and changes I have seen in the athletes since I started On Camp with Kelly in 2004 have been incredible. I'm so happy for Non, she has had an amazing year.

"It has been a pleasure to have shared Non's journey, with so many highs and lows."

Non, now 23, said: "Having someone like Kelly, who has recognised that you have a talent and has shown faith in you, is obviously going to give you some confidence.

"She's got a crazy schedule but still makes time for all of us. Having that support, just someone else who's feeding into your team and helping you, is obviously invaluable.

"When I went to my first World Championship Series race, which was the biggest race that I've ever done, I felt a lot more relaxed because we'd already been taught how to deal with those situations and what to expect. I put that down to what I've done with Kelly, things like dealing with your emotions before a race.

"We did a lot of work when I was 16, 17 on how to deal with that sort of thing and what to expect."
