A FARM in Margam opened its gates to a group of buyers taking part in a programme promoting the Welsh beef supply chain.

Castell Howell Foods and Celtic Pride Premium Welsh Beef invited 15 buyers, catering managers and chefs from S A Brain and Castle Leisure to walk the supply chain.

The buyers visited Old Park Farm in Margam to meet the Williams family, who have supplied Celtic Pride with quality beef for four years.

Evan and Ann Williams, Evan's brother Llewellyn, and Evan's sons Rob, 45, and Huw, 39, run Old Park Farm.

Mr Williams said: "We need customer support long-term — it takes up to three years to raise a beef animal — to give us the confidence to keep producing."

The buyers and chefs were then taken to Castell Howell's boning and cutting plant in Carmarthen to see the latter stage of the supply chain.
