Newsagent in prize running
A SHOP in Ammanford has been shortlisted for a prestigious newsagent award, with the winner announced next month.
Gerald Thomas bought Arcade News six years ago and since then he has turned the small shop into a successful business.
Now Arcade News, which proudly sells the Carmarthen Journal, is up for a Retail Industry Award.
It will compete in the Independent Newsagent of the Year category alongside two other shops from London and Surrey.
Mr Thomas said: "We found out two weeks ago. We had to send off photos and say what we have done in the past for this award.
"I said what I had to do to grow the business and how we have got involved in the community."
Mr Thomas did not expect to reach the final three, but now that he's on the shortlist he is going for gold.
He said: "We are against three others on the shortlist so it's quite good.
"You have to think you've got a good chance."
The category received a record number of entries this year, making Arcade News's success even more impressive.
The winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony in Grosvenor House in London on September 24.
