Mr Metcalfe, who previously wrote and starred in The Goat Street Runners, set in Swansea during the Three Nights Blitz, said of his latest project: “Our new show is getting its first airing on Wednesday October 16 of this year and is the show toward which I have been working all of my life... a Dylan Thomas based promenade tour around pubs with beer included.
“It is called Tankers, Tugs and Banana Boats and has been produced in conjunction with the Arts Council and Maritime Heritage Wales to offer an entertaining theatrical and historical experience.
“The aim is to produce an ongoing tour, rather like literary tours in London or Dublin, that can be offered to individuals and groups alike.”
Metcalfe added that Dylan was no stranger to pubs.
He said: “Everyone I have talked to has said that when Dylan was in Swansea he was a big drinker. The opportunity to celebrate that and his work is too good to miss.
“I have had a lot of help from Jeff Towns, chairman of the Dylan Thomas Society of Great Britain. He is writing a book on Dylan’s pubs an he was able to tell me lots of stories.”
And there will be audience participation of a kind with Metcalfe saying: “There will be time for a pint in each pub. But as there will be four performances on the day I will have to limit myself to one drink a tour!”
