Prior to his move to Dyfed-Powys, Mr Langley has been working as a temporary assistant chief constable, responsible for the crime and operations portfolio since January last year.

The appointment has been welcomed by senior members across both the police force and police authority.

Dyfed-Powys Police Authority is the independent body that holds the police force to account.

Its mission is described as "ensuring the safety of the communities and individuals in Dyfed-Powys and their confidence in the force".

Mr Langley said he was delighted to be joining the force.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to Dyfed-Powys Police as the new assistant chief constable.

"During my preparation for the recruitment process I was extremely impressed with the dedication and professionalism of the staff that I met."

Mr Langley also said in his spare time he was both a keen historian and a keep fit enthusiast.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to be part of a successful team delivering excellent policing to the communities of Dyfed-Powys," added Mr Langley.

"I look forward to working with the police authority in ensuring the ongoing success of Dyfed- Powys Police."

“The language used in this article really is bizarre. The idea of 'welcoming' someone in this context is bizarre enough, but then to repeatedly express 'delight' at such a sober event is just disturbing. People are also 'excited' and 'pleased' apparently. Glorification enshrined.”
