New plans for Asda
SUPERMARKET giant Asda has submitted a new planning application for its controversial store in Gorseinon.
The chain, owned by US retail conglomerate Wal- Mart, has applied for permission to put up 34 signs around the site of the new outlet in Heol y Mynydd.
Permission was granted for the £25 million store in 2009, following a protracted four-year legal battle.
Opponents claimed it would kill off the town's independent businesses in High Street. But Asda said the development would encourage more people to shop locally as well as creating 300 new jobs.
Swansea councillors voted in favour of the store last August.
Blueprints for the latest planning application show a mixture of car park signs.
It is believed architect ASG had to submit a new application for the signs, because they were not featured in the plan which was approved last year.
