ANTISOCIAL behaviour and nightmare neighbours are making a Llanelli housing complex unbearable, residents have complained.

People living at the Five Tys in Station Road say they have put up with enough and are demanding action is taken to make their homes a welcome place to live.

Residents have long complained of abusive behaviour from gangs gathering to drink alcohol outside, but now say certain individuals living in the flats are causing them worry.

Debbie Pearce spoke at a Glanymor and Tyisha Safer Communities Action Group (SCAG) meeting to update members on problems faced.

She said: "On behalf of the group, I would say our problems are starting to escalate a bit.

"It is not quietening down at all. We are getting cheesed off with one particular tenant who was put in temporarily a few months ago.

"It's causing a lot of people lack of sleep."

She added that there had been an incident that morning involving a man who attempted to climb up the outside wall of the building.

"He climbed up the gas pipe and fell off," she said.

"The trouble started at 5.30am and I let it go on for about 10 minutes before I had a skinful.

"The noise goes on until the early hours of the morning — around 2am or 3am — quite regularly, so now we only get a few hours' sleep.

"It's ridiculous and something needs to be done about it."

Last year residents campaigned for the removal of a raised flower bed outside the flats, where groups of up to 50 people would congregate.

They were relieved to see the problems reduce when the bed was demolished, but Mrs Pearce said gangs were now meeting at the back of the buildings to drink alcohol.

Disgusting

"It would be nice if the police would do patrols there in the afternoons because that's when they're meeting, not in the evenings," she said.

A young mum, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, added that she had asked housing officers several times to be moved from the complex.

"It's just disgusting here," she said.

"We found a needle outside the back door, and there are always beer cans and things thrown in the garden.

"A few months ago we found a bag of about six or seven needles outside.

"There are kids' toys and pushchairs in the garden, but people don't care.

"I have tried and tried to be moved, but I have been living here for nearly two years now and nothing has been done."

Speaking at the SCAG meeting, PCSO Simon Lewis said there were 20 calls reporting antisocial behaviour at the Five Tys during November and December.

Sergeant Justin Evans added that officers regularly patrolled the area looking out for signs of antisocial behaviour or criminality but did not receive a large volume of calls.

Community safety manager Kate Thomas said: "Antisocial behaviour is a high priority for the partnership and we understand it is a major concern for communities.

"We actively encourage the public to report any problems by calling police on 101, as early reporting allows officers to work with those committing the offences at an early stage to prevent further escalation and provide long-term solutions for the community.

"By working together to tackle antisocial behaviour we can improve the quality of life in Carmarthenshire and make it a safer place to live, work and visit."

“Like it or not young people are our future; if they have no future then neither do we as its their taxes that will pay for our old age.”

    “westlangdon
Investing means getting a return other than bad behaviour, what do you offer?
Why should young people get any deal, they've done nothing for the country unlike the elderly.
We had nothing when young except bombs at school, at home & in between.
Make your own activities, we did & at weekends hired a church hall for a dance, no alcohol of course. The band had a tea chest with a broom handle & string for the bass & a one & ninepence wash-board scratched over by threepenny thimbles, hopefully someone had a guitar/banjo/violin etc to make it up, it was called skiffle. Are you so bereft of ideas & your education so wasted.
Join the scouts, I did or the RAF cadets, I did too, & spent many a weekend in the band enlivening village fêtes, marching through towns, playing in cinemas or churches. Try giving instead of wanting.”

“Young people are not getting a raw deal. They are wasting the time and resources of the housing departments and the police. They are housed and then abuse the accommodation and are unable to stop their friends calling at all hours of the night. Most of these young people are unemployed and so their homes become drop in centers for others in the area.”

“How ridiculous. What you are saying is unless we taxpayers pour more money into the 'yooth' they will make our lives a misery. Here's an idea they make our lives a misery and we will give them 3 dozen lashes each week until they learn better!

Of course there is no chance of employment if they act like a band of barbarians - ever thought of that?”

“Try investing in young people instead of ****ging them off. Young people are getting a raw deal throughout South Wales, elderly councillors accomodate to the needs of elderly people. Young people have little in the way of low cost activities, double this up with no prospects of employment and you get low level mischief.”
