Neighbours' letter campaign to force out Ian Brady's confidante Jackie Powell

NEIGHBOURS of Moors Murderer Ian Brady's confidante Jackie Powell are planning to write letters to the housing association in a bid to force her out of Llangennech.

The village's Brynhyfryd estate hit the headlines last month after 49-year-old mental health advocate Powell was arrested and her house was raided by police searching for a letter they believed detailed the whereabouts of Brady's 12-year-old victim Keith Bennett.

And last week she made the news again after Clive Pinder, who has been staying with Powell at her Brynhyfryd home, appeared in Llanelli Magistrates Court admitting possessing heroin which police uncovered during the raid in August.

After fleeing the house for several weeks following the arrest, Powell has reportedly since returned to the village, but residents have said they want her and Pinder out of the estate so things can return to normal.

Lynette Rees, 64, said: "How could she help a man that killed five kids?

"We're not happy at all. We just want her off."

And Mrs Rees's daughter Carine Parry, who also lives on the estate, said residents had been told to write to the housing association individually about the matter.

"We've got to write to the housing association," she said. "I phoned them on Monday and they said hers is housing association.

"We don't want things like this happening here.

"I don't want to be living next to them."

Valerie Williams, 70, said: "It's a family estate.

"I don't want her either. I would sign a petition."

Last year, the estate was descended on by armed police who undertook a five-hour siege on the house.

Following the operation, Pinder was arrested and charged with rape — but a trial in December found him not guilty.

Mrs Williams said: "I remember when the armed police were here.

"They were there with guns pointed — the shock and horror of it."

Powell's next-door neighbour Julia Howells said the house had been "bombarded" with eggs on a number of occasions.

She said: "I would rather they weren't there. I'm fed up of it.

"With the armed raid and then all about the letter, I think the message from everyone here is get lost and don't come back."

Powell gained notoriety after she appeared in a Channel 4 documentary aired last month claiming Brady had handed her a letter detailing the location of his victim Keith Bennett's body.

Producers of the programme informed Greater Manchester Police, who arrested her and raided the house but failed to find the letter.

During the raid, officers came across 0.1 grams of heroin — a street value of around £10 — which Pinder admitted was his.

Last week magistrates in Llanelli gave him a £55 fine.

Following the hearing, Pinder — who was joined in court by Powell — told reporters: "I'm the one in court, not her. Don't ask her any questions."
