Neath Football Club hit by new debt claims
NEATH Football Club has been hit with new demands for cash, despite paying off a huge tax bill.
Revenue and Customs asked the High Court to dismiss a winding-up petition against the club, after it paid a £65,000 tax debt — only for lawyers for Barclays Bank to then request to take over as petitioner in the action in respect of an alleged unpaid debt.

However, the amount of money in question has not been revealed.
Lawyers for the club said in court it was not in a position to admit that the debt was owed to the bank.

No-one from Neath FC was available for comment at the time the Post went to print.
A spokesperson for the Football Association of Wales (FAW) said, however, that the governing body had been in touch with the club.
He said: "The FAW has spoken with Neath FC and is confident the matter will be resolved in the coming weeks."
Fans of the Welsh Premier League side have become increasingly worried about the club's future, following the financial issues, legal action and chairman Geraint Hawkes's import business going into administration.
The club faced similar proceedings by the taxman in June last year — but that case was thrown-out after the club paid-off what it owed.
Then, in October, the payment of players' wages was delayed by what the club referred to as "issues".
Speaking to the Post in December, spokesman Chris Jones said the club was looking forward to the rest of the season.
He added that the club was "good for the area".

“Why do we keep reading about Football Clubs being pursued by HMRC for a Tax debt?
This is the money that they as employers are deducting from their employees for Income Tax and National Insurance. To not pay it to the proper authority on time (by the 19th of each month) is tantamount to theft and could well prevent an employee from claiming a Tax rebate they are due.
I have to pay my taxes under the same system and would not be happy if ANY REBATE WAS NOT PAID”

“i suppose they would be if they are using players they can't really afford!!!! The sad thing is teams are FORCED to trade outside their means to progress or their neighbours will just forge ahead. We are a 3 million population competing in a 10 million audience . The books will never balance sadly.”
