National title is just a stroll for Dainton

A WEEK after winning the Welsh Schools title in the 1000m walk, Llanelli Athletic Club's Ellie Dainton added the Welsh national title at Carmarthen on Saturday.

Walking in a combined Boys/Girls Under-15 race Dainton moved to the front after 200m and was never challenged winning comfortably in 5.29.38, a new club record and just over a second outside the Welsh record.

With two competitions remaining this season Dainton is confident she can set a new record.

Competing in the under-20 triple jump, club-mate Kara Stedman won the bronze medal with a season's best jump of 9.57m, while Stacey Webber finished fourth in the under-17 women's 800-metres.

Earlier, Jenny Phillips won silver at the British Masters Championships with a season's best time of 5mins 4 seconds.

At the Welsh Schools Championships, Dainton won gold with a new club record time of 5.29 in the 1000m walk.

Laura Davies won 3 silver medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay and Emily Downey took bronze in the 1500m.

Webber finished 5th in the 1500m, Leah Wilson-Randell 7th in the 800m and Danni Franklin also 7th in the high jump.

Club captain Jonathan Williams, competing in the British League match in Yeovil for Swansea, finishing 2nd in the 400m with a new personal best of 48.94secs and 2nd again in the 800m with another personal best and new club record of 1.52.95.
