Les Miserables SA15 Stage School Y Ffwrnes, Llanelli

PUTTING Hollywood aside, Victor Hugo's tale of hardship and strife in 19th century France, Les Miserables, undoubtedly carries its greatest power on the stage.

And the cast in SA15's show at Y Ffwrnes last week featured performers aged from 5 to 19.

The show ran smoothly, especially when the whole company was singing, with excellent harmonies, dynamics and diction.

But the show is not all massive tear-jerking ballads — there are comedic moments and Josh Light and Naomi Randell did well as Thernardier and Madame Thernardier.

I Dreamed A Dream was sung well by Fantine, and Daniella Difede captured the character of Eponine and nailed her solo number On My Own.

With a booming, commanding voice, Liam Reilly filled the role of Inspector Javert excellently, while Samuel Morris as Marius was the best portrayal of the character I have ever seen.

It was a pleasure to watch and an enjoyable night at the theatre.
