Mumbles and Ystradgynlais secure titles in Alpha Fasteners West Wales Cricket Association
MUMBLES and Ystradgynlais were both celebrating last weekend as they clinched respective titles in the Alpha Fasteners West Wales Cricket Association.
The division one championship went to Mumbles, while Ystrad claimed the second-tier crown.
Mumbles had to chase down a target of 190 set by Ynysygerwn, but opener Tony Dowrick made the job easier with an excellent innings of 108. Llangennech batsman Aled Howell scored exactly the same number for his side and along with Dylan Evans (95) contributed to a shock win over Cimla.
They had finished on a creditable 239, with Rehan Mann weighing in with 57.
Sketty Church secured a five-wicket win over Port Talbot Town and Tata won by six wickets against Pontarddulais to settle second and third spots in the division. Dafen beat Skewen to put some distance between themselves and others at the bottom end of the table.
Ystradgynlais achieved their unassailable position at the top of division two by beating Swansea Civil Service, but not without a slight scare.
Civil Service were bowled out for 42 and Ystrad then struggled to reach the target, eventually getting there for the loss of six wickets.
Penllergaer cemented their second position with an 8-wicket win over Ynystawe.
That was despite the best efforts of Ynystawe batsman Paul Crane, who enjoyed a knock of 74.
Paul Rowlands made 84 for Penllergaer.
Ammanford moved into third place with a gift of 30 points when Gowerton conceded their match.
