A MOTORBIKE rider has died after a collision in the Neath Valley.

It happened by the water treatment works on the B4242 Neath Road in Abergarwed at 10.50am yesterday.

The 50-year-old, who lives in the area, was riding a blue Honda Firestorm motorbike when it was in collision with a white Renault Kangoo van.

The motorcyclist was taken to Morriston Hospital, where he died.

Police later arrested and interviewed a 62-year-old man in connection with the incident.

A spokesman said: "South Wales Police would like to speak to any person who witnessed the collision or who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicles being driven prior to the collision and who have not yet given their details.

"The road was closed for approximately four hours while police carried out initial investigations and recovered the vehicles.

"We would like to thank the people affected by the closure for their patience and understanding."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit in Cockett, Swansea on 01792 456999 (extension 52331) or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
