Ministers' positive meeting over rail in Wales
WALES'S Transport Minister has held talks with the UK Government over the future of railways.
Carl Sargeant described his meeting with the Minister of State for Transport Simon Burns to discuss rail in Wales as very positive.
The two met in Westminster to discuss the electrification of the Great Western main line to Swansea, and the Valley lines; the modernisation of the North Wales line, including electrification; franchising; and how Wales can benefit from high-speed rail by connecting to the HS2 network at Crewe.
Mr Sargeant said: "This is an im- portant time for rail in Wales, with several large-scale projects and changes we need to take forward.

"We need efficient, reliable rail links, particularly at this difficult economic time, and that's why I am committed to ensuring investment in and modernisation of our railways. I want to continue to build on the success that we have already achieved in securing a commitment for the electrification of the Great Western Main Line to Swansea, and the Valley Lines by developing the strategic case for modernising rail in North Wales, which will include electrification and linking to the HS2 network."
