Minister gives his views
WALES Office Minister Stephen Crabb was today due to give a keynote speech on the role of the energy sector in Wales.
Mr Crabb will address business leaders at the event at the Celtic Manor Resort.
-

He will say: "We are committed to a move towards a low-carbon economy and the renewables sector provides us with a wealth of opportunities.
"It is clear that creating a diverse energy mix is critical to ensuring the UK's future energy security, and reduce our reliance on high-carbon generation sources. Wales certainly has a wealth of natural resources which place it perfectly to play a full part in meeting this challenge."

“taffjack1 U obviously do not keep up with the news, only 2 or 3 weeks ago an opencast mine in Neath announced it is laying off staff because of falling coal prices. Coal is of course used greatly in the manufacturer of steel, about it's only good use.
BTW i'm old enough to remember all the coal fires burning on a winters morning in the village i grew up in, and i can assure U there was nothing clean about it lol”

“Neathboy 234,
If you think that coal isn't coming back, then you had better let TATA know.
The future of their Port Talbot works, depends upon obtaining access to the coal reserves at Margam. The choice will be simple, burn coal or forget the jobs. How do you think that The Assembly will play that one ? Won't your Labour Dream Team look after Welsh jobs ?
The Welsh Anthracite, is the best steam cold in the World and virtually clean burning. So long as it can be extracted in Open Cast, rather than Deep Mines, it is the future, with at least 300 years reserve available. It can drive Heavy Industry, Power and Exports, with the resulting jobs if only the 'Sandal wearing Hippies' will allow it.
I assume that you would rather have every one in the 'service or Public Sector, than having real jobs ? Looks like you are the deluded one.”

“taffjack1 U would seem to be at odds with everyone. The labour party at the assembly, the LD and Plaid who agree with them. And now we can add to the list the Tory party who are also committed towards a move a low-carbon economy and the renewables sector. It must be so frustrating for, perhaps sitting in a dark room for a while is the best thing for U.
BTW if u think coal is coming back, u are sadly mistaken, deluded might be a better word.”

“This should be a great opportunity for Mr Crabbe to take Centre Stage and start talking some sense.
Let's hear that we are finally going to harness the incredible power of the Severn Estuary's Tidal Range. What about the enormous coal reserves of South Wales ? The finest quality anthracite coal in the World, clean burning, not like the rubbish, that British Power Stations import and burn, from places like Poland and South America. Lets get the Welsh work force back into real jobs, that they can be proud off, instead of sitting in Call Centres, flogging junk.
Is he finally going to call time on the useless wind mills, that blight our Coast and Countryside ? Now that he and his Lib Dim Partners are in power, are they going to put a 'spanner in the works', of the Wind Turbine Blade Manufacturers, who have been Welsh Labours biggest financial Sponsors ?
Is he going to admit that Nuclear Power is the way to go ? Will he finally admit that the latest Nuclear Plants which have been developed at huge expense by the EU, ( many thanks to Caroline Lucas, Green Party MEP, for your help ) are safe and only produce 0.1% of the waste of early generation stations ?
Such a fantsatic opportunity for Mr Crabbe to hit the headlines, as the first Welsh Tory to say anything sensible but, somehow, I know that I am about to be disapointed !
Taffjack,
Sat at home in the dark, waiting for a gale to spin my wind turbine !”
