This is SouthWales

So, off we go! However, before we say farewell to Llaregub

for now, I must just borrow one of Mr Thomas's lines, one of my

favourites from the play.

'There's nasty people round here!'

That line made me chuckle every time!

However, whilst I believe that Dylan's influence for the

characters was Swansea, experience this week has proved that a

more appropriate line would be 'There's lovely people round

here!'

A few months ago I had a call from Steve Balsamo asking if I

would take part in a charity concert to be held in St Peter's

Church in Cockett.

The concert was to raise money to help the church in a

neighbouring Parish and was billed as an Evening of Intimate

Acoustic Music in aid of St Barnabas Roof Appeal.

I agreed immediately, as church is an important part of my

life and some dear and old friends were amongst those who had

agreed to perform.

In fact the acts I would be introducing were The Storys, Mal

Pope, Lorraine King, Scotty, Karl Morgan, Mark Ruebery and

,Phil James.

Now I've known the boys from The Storys for quite a while

and Phil James and I go back a few years.

However, I hate to admit it but Mal and I first stood on

stage together 31 years ago and Lorraine has been a good

friends since we were both in a Friday night Church youth group

in our teens!

Now I'm a fan of the Storys, they are great guys and a

fantastic band.

In fact, I never tire of hearing their music and they gave

as good a performance in front of 300 in St Peters as they

would in front of the huge crowds that they play to in stadiums

across Europe.

In fact, just after the show they would be off to play in

the South of France and several gigs in Ireland but they gave

their all for St Barnabus .... Much respect!

Mal of course is one of music's great singer song

writers.

Whilst we know him for the successful musicals that he has

written, such as Amazing Grace, Mal has worked with and written

songs for some of the world of music's biggest names.

In fact he brought a friend in for an interview on the

Breakfast Show on Swansea Sound just recently — Merrill Osmond

(another top guy)

Mal has just produced and worked on an album with Merrill

which has just been released and he was just as enthusiastic

about the charity gig as he is about working with one of the

iconic stars of pop.

This is a talented city and wowing everyone was Karl Morgan,

a young, incredibly talented singer/songwriter who is going to

be a big star but is always willing to appear for good

causes.

Add to mix, Lorraine King, Scotty, Mark Rubbery, Phil James

and you get — 'There's lovely people around here.'

You may also have passed more of the many charitable people

who live locally walking from Langland to Horton on Saturday

morning.

All I had to do was say a few words and start the event and

send dozens of walkers aged from 10 to 67 on their way to raise

money for Cancer Research and Maggie's Place, the Cancer

Support Centre at Singleton Hospital.

It was great to see a crowd of people who work hard Monday

to Friday enthusiastically give up their Saturday Morning for a

good cause!

Altogether now, one more time! There's lovely people 'round

here!
