NEW Celtic striker Miku claims he could have joined Swansea City this summer — but he turned them down because he wanted to join a "big" team.

Swansea made enquiries about Miku during the close season and, according to reports in Spain, were still interested in the Getafe player on deadline day.

Miku says Reading were another club who wanted to bring him to the Premier League, but that he wanted a move to Parkhead.

The 27-year-old Venezuelan international has left one of Michael Laudrup's old clubs to join Celtic on a season-long loan.

And he said: "I hope to have a great year here.

"I like the fact Celtic are a big team who face the challenge of playing every weekend to win.

"If you are with other teams you can sometimes lose but here there is the pressure and I like that. I like the attitude that says: if you don't win, it's a problem.

"It's a big honour — I hope to have a great year here and stay longer.

"Swansea and Reading both wanted to sign me in the summer and Getafe wanted money for me before the season started, but I said I fancied moving to a big team.

"I was the best striker at Getafe. I played every game and felt if I was to go to another team and another country, it would have to be a really big one.

"Swansea and Reading are both good teams but for me, it would be similar to Getafe.

"Celtic is different. It has the support, the history, the Champions League. There is more here for me. I want to win the three trophies and I think we have the team to do it."

“Can not believe he went public with such a silly statement. Never mind - as said in previous posts we do not want or need him with that attitude. All the best.”

“Miku wanted a massive team and ended up at Celtic, unlucky pal, should of chose the best league in the world ! Not one of the worst..... just to remind you, there is awful teams in the champions league, they got there cos there domestic league is pitifull and they are the only team to compete, ala celtic. You enjoy playing with legends such as Ledley,ha ha ha ha ha.”

“Ummm, chuck_key, we ARE poor relations cash wise in our division, whoosh!!

Celtic only get champions league because of your joking league, come to the EPL and your team would struggle, as shown by the usual Scottish failure to get past the first round in any major tourney you take part in. If it didn't escape your attention, we finished 11th last season and look like doing similar this time, you'd be a relegation candidate down here too.
We get a lot more money in the EPL because who wants to watch Scottish football, only you jocks and without Rangers you'll get less again.
You want passion, here's a quote from a Sky presenter tho I paraphrase....Swansea fans making 20,000 sound like 50,000....Oh one more thing, if you're so happy up north why are there constant rumblings about the "big two" wanting to move down to the EPL?
I hope you don't get too upset the next time this "provincial" team comes and steals one of your best players because any player who really wants a challenge won't go up north unless you pay them more than you can afford, like you usually have to to attract decent players.
I'll say hello to Sung-Yeung for you!!”

“Ki left Celtic for the Swans to play in the best league in the world. Playing in front of a very large crowd - against such poor opposition every week presents very little challenge to a top class player. It must be so boring seeing the same old teams all the time.”

“A delusional has been, proven by his own statement:"I WAS the best striker at Getafe."
Glasgow Celtic are a big club in Scotland but nowhere else, and even big clubs fall, look at Rangers.
    Swansea are well rid.”

“Celtic are not a big club. Bigger debts than Swansea, perhaps. Bot no, Celtic are not a bigger club than Swansea. They were bigger once upon a time, but that time is gone and will never return.”
