Michu to take his Swansea City team-mates out for dinner - because it's tradition!
MICHU will be taking his Swansea City team mates out for a slap-up meal - so as not to ignore tradition.
It was on the team bus on the way home from the Southampton Premier League game at St Mary’s that the striker learnt he had been called up to Vicente del Bosque’s squad for the World Cup qualifiers with Belarus in Majorca tonight and Georgia in Albacete three days later.
It is traditional in Spain for people who have had some good news to take everyone out for dinner.
So Michu will be splashing the cash to ensure his team-mates have a great night out.
"Michu is amazing - he really deserves the call up,” team mate and fellow Spaniard Jordi Amat told the Swansea City website.
“We heard about Michu's call-up on the bus home and we told him ‘you owe us dinner’ - so he will have to pay.”
Amat played n Spain Under-21s’ 3-2 win over Bosnia Herzegovina in Murcia.
Spain now have three wins from three in their group as they remain on target to qualify for the Uefa U21s Championship in the Czech Republic in 2015.
Centre-back Amat said he felt his development had stepped up a notch following his move to the Swans from Espanyol.
“The level in the Premier League is very high,” said Amat, who has featured eight times this season.
“I have already faced teams like Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. I am improving every day. I am improving with the language too.”
But he admitted he still had some problems with the local lingo.
“Understanding Welsh is impossible!” joked Amat.
“It sounds like a language from another planet.”
