HE'S a king among men in his homeland and it seems the Danes' love of Michael Laudrup has sparked a huge interest in Swansea.

More than a million people in Denmark — almost a fifth of the country's population — tuned in to watch a TV programme about the city, the Swans and its new manager screened before a Euro 2021 match.

Holger Rasmussen, the DR Sporten journalist who visited Swansea, said: "You can't believe how famous Laudrup is in Denmark — he's as close as you can get to the Danish Royal Family.

"Everybody knows his name and picture, and I'm sure there will be a lot of Swansea City FC supporters in Denmark in the season to come.

"Laudrup's every move will be followed and many Danish newspapers will cover Swansea City's games.

"And I guess you'll also see a lot of Danes going to Swansea and other Premier League cities to follow Laudrup's new team in person if they can get tickets.

"I'm sure I'll go back to Swansea as a tourist one day too."

Swansea Council said it was further evidence of how Premier League status was putting Swansea on the international map.

Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "The Premier League is arguably the best of its kind and that means it attracts viewers from all corners of the world.

"But this isn't just great news for the Swans as a football club.

"It's also great news for Swansea Bay because it will raise our profile as a visitor destination and that will hopefully encourage more and more people to come here and spend money in the local economy. I've been to Nigeria several times over the past few years and it's amazing the number of people there who have now heard of Swansea just because of the city's Premier League status.

"Michael Laudrup's profile in Denmark and beyond means there's going to be heightened interest in Swansea Bay when the new season kicks off and we'll make every effort to ensure the whole area continues to benefit."

“I've always called him "shrewed Huw" from the outset now you can see what I'm talking about, Huws loyalty to Swansea City Football club has now progressed to Swansea tourism, by placing us on the world map with Michael taking the managerial role that step further. Wonderful news lets hope Swansea aspire to the heights the Danes think of him and us. Welcome them with open arms boyo's they're now a part of our city in more way's than one. (Swansea =Swains eye....bet I spelt that wrong....duh) As for the Liberty rent! mm lets keep an open view to this if the club brings tourism in on a higher scale, I personally think it will, suffice to say.”

“This... this is the price we pay for cheap rent at the stadium. It worth many times more than rent charges! 1 MILLION people who probably never heard of our city just got a tour!

While people who refused to be told constantly complained that Swansea City FC were not paying their way, this happens and should shut them up once and for all. If they continue harping on about the rent then they are truly oblivious to how the world of tourism and TV promotion works and as such, they can never be educated.

I for one hope just 1% of these Danes come and visit our city, I will be welcoming them with open arms. That would be 10,000 visitors by the way, in case the serial complainers lost the calculators that were at the ready when the rent article was published.”
