THERE are growing fears that Glamorgan star Tom Maynard could be the next out of the door at the troubled Welsh county.

It is understood that the talented 21-year-old batsman is being linked with a move to Surrey — even though he has only just signed a three-year contract at the Swalec Stadium.

Maynard's position was always going to come under question once his father Matthew — the club's former director of cricket — resigned last month.

But if he wants to leave, as seems the case under the current county regime, then he will have to negotiate a release from his contract.

There has also been speculation that Aussie-born all-rounder Jim Allenby is talking to rival counties.

But he could be appeased with the offer of the county's vice-captaincy next summer.

The threat of Maynard and Allenby leaving Glamorgan was tabled as part of a detailed proposal from former vice-chairman Nigel Roberts at a committee meeting at the Swalec Stadium on Tuesday night.

Roberts has since resigned from the committee after his call for controversial chairman Paul Russell to stand down was rejected.

He has also pulled the plugged on a major sponsorship deal between his company Paramount Interiors and Glamorgan.

A statement from Glamorgan chief executive Alan Hamer yesterday confirmed Roberts's departure.

He said: "Nigel had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the recently announced strategic changes that affected the club's cricket department and at the committee meeting, he tabled a proposition that would have seen him replace Paul Russell as the club's chairman at next year's AGM.

"After some discussion, this proposal was unanimously rejected by the club's committee and despite attempts to retain Nigel's services as the club's deputy chairman, it is with regret that he tendered his resignation with immediate effect."

Roberts is the latest high-profile name to leave the crisis county in what has been one of the most turbulent months in Glamorgan history.

Following the shock announcement that South African Alviro Petersen will captain the side next season, Matthew Maynard resigned as director of cricket followed by former captain Jamie Dalrymple and president Peter Walker.

Roberts's proposal said that both Maynard and Dalrymple — on a two-year playing contract — would have returned, had the committee agreed to the call for Russell's exit.

“He is only in the the team because his father picks it anyhow.

He would be no major loss to the county and would struggle to find another county willing to take him on”
