A MUM is struggling to book a table during the party season - because her name is MARY CHRISTMAS.

Mary, aged 43, married Paul Christmas 12 years ago without realising what was in store.

She said: "Once I booked a table for 20 under my name but they thought it was a joke so when we arrived we couldn't have our dinner.

"Now I always book under my maiden name."

Mary McCarthy, as she then was, met Paul when they both worked at Tesco in Swansea.

"He was on the dairy section and I was on the deli counter. I kept seeing him when I went out with my mates," said Mary, who lives in Gorseinon.

"It was only when he asked me to go out with him that I found out his full name.

"That was 18 years ago and I wasn't even thinking about getting married, so it never crossed my mind I would be Mary Christmas."

She added: "Once he proposed it didn't bother me what name I had as I loved him.

"Since we've been married I get people pointing at me in the shop and shouting 'Mary Christmas' - especially at this time of year."

“At least when family and friends get gifts from you and your hubby at this time of year, Mary, they are true 'Christmas Presents'!”
