A MAN remains in a critical condition after he was in collision with a car in a late-night incident over the weekend.

The pedestrian was taken to Morriston Hospital after the collision on one of Swansea's busiest roads, at around 1am on Saturday.

Police have described the injured man as having suffered from "life-threatening injuries".

The incident happened in Carmarthen Road, near the Waun Wen Road pedestrian crossing.

Officers said the man was in collision with a black Fiat Scudo.

They are appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or has any information, to contact them as soon as possible.

A police spokesman said: "The man remains in a critical condition, and our inquiries continue.

"Any person that witnessed the collision, or has any information regarding the vehicle involved, should contact police."

The busy stretch of road is no stranger to accidents. In 2006, a pensioner was hospitalised with serious head injuries after being in collision with a car outside the former Waun Wen Inn pub.

And three years earlier, Bishop Vaughan pupil Christian Robins was killed after he was in collision with a car, as he chased a rugby ball into the road.

No charges were brought against the driver, who stopped and called the emergency services. Police said they did not believe he had broken the 30mph speed limit.

But the 12-year-old's parents launched a campaign after his death, to highlight the dangers of children playing near busy roads.

And in 2004, a man was taken to hospital after being involved in a collision with a lorry, also outside the former Waun Wen Inn in Carmarthen road.
