Man killed in explosion in Carmarthenshire

A MAN aged in his thirties was killed in a suspected gas explosion in north east Carmarthenshire this morning (Wednesday).

The police were called to the incident in Pumsaint, near Llanwrda at 9:30am.

Police spokeswoman Sian George said: "We can now confirm that the incident has resulted in the death of one man in his thirties.

"The family have been informed and trained police family liaison officers have been deployed to support the family."

The man was taken to the accident and emergency unit at Swansea's Morriston hospital but died of his injuries.

The spokeswoman added: "Dyfed Powys Police are working in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive due to the incident being work related.

"No other persons are involved and the incident and scene does not present a danger to other members of the public."

It is understood the incident involved an explosion of a gas cylinder although the fire service were not called to the scene.

HM Coroner has been informed and a police investigation continues into the incident.
