“generally if an accident happened 50 miles from Morriston sounds to me it would be Haverfordwest Hospital or West Wales Hospital , Glangwili Carmarthen for the patient then. With or without an air-a mbulance. Be gratefull that we do have an airbourne ambulance which can be used .Wasnt there an incident the other day involving a missing child , did you complain of any mis-use that day for the services provided too? Have something to complain later this month with the air show in Swansea why dont you while you are at it . Now that to me would be more worthy of a complaint not the air ambulance for a waste of resources etc.”

    “Kaylee.
You get the point but you dont get the point.
The gentleman could have died waiting for the air ambulance to arrive to take him just a mile or so.
When a person is injured get them to hospital asap not wait for the air ambulance to take you a mile.
After the air ambulance arrives at the hosiptal they will put the patient in an ambulance to go to the accident and emergency.”

“i dont think anyone is in a position to comment on how the nhs use transport are you all doctors??? the only people who know the severity of the accident are the people who attend the scene and if they think that the air ambulance is needed then so be it because at the end of the day you would have enough to say if a member of your family died because of the nhs cutting back on transport. The way i see it is everyone likes a good moan when it doesn't concern them but its a different story when it does, get a life!!!!”

“Not saying the air ambulance was misused in this instance or the other a St Helens.
When you are literally in both cases a stones throw away from a hospital why use the A/A
as it would take longer over shorter journeys.
The A/A has to be scambled then land, the area has to be cleared by police most of the time for it to land.
You then have to shut down the engine load the patient in then restart and take off.
I saw the A/A recenly in Glynneath the patient was brought by ambulance to the A/A then flown to Morriston.”

“You cant say there has been any mis-use of the helicopter in this instance. The burns unit is in Morriston and speed would be a big priority .We dont know if ambulances were already busy or moved to cover areas where they had been called out. Please dont knock the emergency services in this instance and hope that you or someone close to you doesnt suffer something as bad as this. Hope the injured person makes a full recovery”

“Birchgrove to Morriston in an air ambulance seems pointless and very expensive.”

    “AIR AMBULANCE.
The cost of the air ambulance is very high but you have to question its use at some times.
We have the tragic incident at St Helens on Sunday when an air ambulance was used to take a patient to Morriston when Singleton hospital is less then 3 or 4 minutes away by road, Morriston being 10 by road.
By the time the air ambulance is srambled and arrives the patient is placed onboard and transported surely it takes much longer to get to hospital than in a conventional ambulance.
You would have to question the use of the air ambulance over a short distance against a conventional ambulance.
I may have this totally wrong but having seen the air ambulance arrive at incidents in and around Swansea you would have to question its usage for short journeys.”
