Maesteg pensioner Michael Batten faces jail for sexually abusing girl 20 years ago
A PENSIONER has been told he faces jail after he was convicted of sexually abusing a girl two decades ago.
Michael Batten, aged 70, of Neath Road, Maesteg, had denied three counts of indecent assault and one of indecency with a child — but was found guilty following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court.
The four-day trial was told that former British Rail worker Batten had befriended and groomed the girl — who was eight at the time — and had then robbed her of her childhood by abusing her.
The court heard the victim kept quiet about what had happened to protect her family.
Sentencing was adjourned pending reports, and Batten was granted bail until next month.
However, Judge Neil Bidder QC told him: "I make it absolutely clear, you are facing prison and let there be no doubt."
