Maccarinelli Banks on big fight night
ENZO Maccarinelli will tomorrow rubberstamp his WBO cruiserweight title fight against Johnathan Banks in a special meeting with Frank Warren.
The former WBO champion from Swansea looks to reclaim his crown when he takes on undefeated American Banks next month.
A provisional date of February 28 has been agreed, but Maccarinelli and Sports Network boss Frank Warren will confirm that, and the venue, during discussions tomorrow.
With the festive period over, the Swansea fighter is firmly focused on seeing off Banks before setting his sights on ruling the division.
"I was up at 9am on Christmas Day with my kids to see them unwrap their gifts," said Maccarinelli. "Then it was off for a six-mile run around Swansea.
"With a fight against Banks coming up, and the chance to win back my belt, you need to keep focused.
"It is difficult for some boxers over the Christmas and new year period as their families are indulging most at that time.
"I am pretty good with my diet, but I do have a sweet tooth, so after the sixth tin of Roses I have to make sure I am working it off straight away.
"Seriously though, I have been quite relaxed but at the same time preparing myself for this fight.''
With Maccarinelli facing Banks for the WBO crown and Tomasz Adamek beating Steve Cunningham for the IBF title last month, Warren has pointed to the Polish champion as the man to beat.
Maccarinelli said: "I want to be the king of the cruiserweight division and that means beating Banks and then going on to fight Tomasz Adamek, (WBA champion) Guillermo Jones and (WBC holder) Giacobbe Fragomeni.''
