TENS of thousands of pounds could be spent issuing every MP with an iPad-style tablet computer after an influential cross-party committee backed the idea.

More than a dozen members have been testing the Apple devices over the past year as part of proposals to save printing costs.

And the House's cross-party Administration Committee has now recommended the "rapid roll-out of suitable mobile tablet hardware" to all 650 MPs.

Chairman Sir Alan Haselhurst said: "It seems that this is the future, for the convenience in terms of dealing with all the work MPs have to do."

    “Taken from here http://tinyurl.com/6ntpphf

Every MP already gets three desktop computers and two laptops for their offices. Some have also claimed separately for iPads on their official expenses as part of this allowance.

I think they already have enough computers :-D”

    “antyall
If you know of any tablet computers that are made in Britain, please tell us.
IMO, British computers are not viable (def: capable of sustaining life), more like DOA.

There is a computer available that is a laptop/tablet duo. Price: £338.99 (incl VAT + Delivery)
    Feel Inspired?
    Check it out.”

“I am sure that an ipad or tablet device would be an asset to the work of our MP's and I also think that it would be a good idea for the MP's to pay for the device out of their own salary and not from the public purse.”

“Here we go again a great rip off by our MPs, if this takes place then they can make their staff redundant at no cost to the taxpayer. So if they want these tablets pay for them out of their own pockets as I, notice they go for the most expensive and they tell the people we are in a recession it is through these people we are where we are today because some MPs fiddled while Bittian went into melt down.”

“With the bad press that apple are receiving at the moment on the way that these are produced in China I would have thought that a British made product would be more viable!”

“Definitely the wrong type of tablets as some MPs are less intelligent than an iPad.”

“Right on HUNDREDS not tens of thousands
So having free laptops isn't enough!
OMG they're SO heavy poor dears
So much easier to lose too
What do MP do now Brussels is in control, oh yes loooong holidays & expenses, it's difficult to arrange them to be just a few pence below the maximum.
Paperless office, the triumph of hope over reality. I used to sell paper & jumped for joy with the introduction of PC”
