Our MP is doing a great job
MR Lewis's sour petty attack ('Is MP good value for us?', September 22) is typical of small- minded opponents of the Labour Party.
If Mr Lewis was accurate he would have reported that the vast bulk of Peter Hain's so called MP 'expenses' are on running his Neath office.

About £113,000 is staff salaries. Approximately £20,000 is on office costs including rent, electricity, gas, telephone bills and stationery, which included that used in the work carried out for the Swansea Valley Miners' Appeal Fund.
The small remainder was on weekly travel costs to Parliament and on maintaining a second home due to having to live both in London and Neath.

Therefore his 'expenses' consist of running an office to carry out essential constituency work and the rest essential to doing the job.
Would Mr Lewis prefer a Parliament reminiscent of 100 years ago when only people with money could afford to be MPs?
Maybe he would prefer Peter's busy Neath office to close down instead of helping thousands of constituents every year?
On the Severn Barrage, if the Government gives it the go-ahead after all Peter's parliamentary work, many thousands of skilled, well-paid jobs will be created in Neath Port Talbot as part of 50,000, most in South Wales.

“He certainly manages to keep that tan topped up.”
