MP calls for lending rate probe
PLAID Cymru Treasury spokesman Jonathan Edwards MP has repeated calls for a full investigation into the manipulation of the Libor inter-bank lending rate, warning that London party politics should not be allowed to get in the way.
It was revealed last week that the Libor rate was being manipulated by Barclays and other banks from 2005 onwards and evidence this week suggests senior Whitehall sources were aware of attempts to rig the rate in 2008 during the financial crisis, when Labour were in government.
Mr Edwards said: "This is a scandal of conspiracy, theft and fraud at the heart of the financial industries in London."
