Local rivals eye up a Millennium final
AFTER their Swalec Bowl wins on Saturday, Amman United and Tycroes are now only two games away from making appearances at the Millennium Stadium.
The quarter-finals now beckon and both clubs will aim to keep winning while also hoping to avoid each other which could set up a dream Amman Valley final at the mecca of Welsh rugby.

Amman, watched by former world player of the year and ex-Amman scrum-half Shane Williams, breezed to a 28-0 home win over Gowerton, scoring three tries.
The tryless first half proved a competitive affair. Home flanker Andrew Lacey made an impressive burst from the edge of his 22 almost straight from the kick-off.
And the Amman pack starred too, especially in the second quarter as they almost scored via a 40-metre driving maul that had Gowerton back-pedalling at a rate of knots.
Although Amman were dominant in the scrums and in the three-quarters, they had to rely on the trusty boot of fly-half Adrian Thomas to give them a 9-0 half-time lead via three penalties.
At the start of the second half Gowerton were down to 14 following a sin-binning, and this gave Amman the attacking edge, which they grasped with both hands when a lightning attack from halfway ended with Carl Worsfold handing off a Gowerton defender on his 30-metre run to the try line for five points.
Amman never let Gowerton settle after that and pressure at a scrum led to Amman scrum-half Joel Foster diving over for a gutsy touchdown. Adrian Thomas converted.
Amman put the icing on the cake with a mesmerising try. Doug Jenkins started the move in his own 22 and running 55 metres downfield before being tackled five metres short of the line. However, his barn-storming burst wasn't going to be wasted as possession was whipped out wide to full-back Dean Williams who, like his sibling regularly does for the Ospreys, slid through the visiting defence for a try that Thomas converted.
Tycroes returned from Cobra RFC near Welshpool with thoughts firmly focused on the quarter-finals.
Cobra, who have lost only lost once in division two north this season and are second in that table, had plenty of venom late in the game but in-form Tycroes crossed for 15 points in the first half and another seven in the second to win 22-14.
Elated Tycroes team manager Craig Phillips said: "Man of the match Aaron Price at blindside flanker was superb yet again, cleaning up everything on the floor and making regular forays."
There was one thing that bugged Phillips, though. "There were no major injuries in the game so I was nonplussed when the referee added what seemed like a dozen additional minutes at the end of the second half. Cobra had scored a converted try in the 79th minute and then followed up with another in extra time.
"We won it anyway, although we were concerned at the time. We also had three disallowed tries, with Scott Bowen, Aaron Price and Stuart Mander all denied glory."
Wing Grant Williams ensured Tycroes turned around at the break 15-0 ahead after five penalties. In the 47th minute fly-half Dean Bromham stooped to collect possession before ghosting past several Cobra defenders for a try, converted by Williams. Tycroes were 22-0 up at that stage and although ending the match only eight points ahead they deserved their victory.
Ammanford's home Swalec Cup game against Uwic was postponed when an 11 o'clock decision was made because of the rain. The game will now take place on March 3.
Penybanc romped to a 39-19 victory at Llansawel which ensured that they keep a firm grip on the division six west runners-up spot.
Game time has been a bit of an issue of late for Penybanc, as their chairman Ian Lloyd explained: "We've only played once during the last six weeks, so we were understandably rusty during asomewhat lacklustre performance."
Banc were certainly scoring enough tries, though, with six touchdowns recorded between centre Geraint Evans, wing Jason Pritchard, No. 8 Cellan Harris, second row John James, wing Dan Roberts and fly-half Mathew Lloyd, who also flighted over four conversions and one penalty.
