A woman who watched the drama unfold but who wished to remain anonymous, reported seeing two police vans, three police cars and about eight officers at the scene.

The flat window appeared to have previously been boarded up, but one of the boards lay on the grass outside.

Splattered blood coated the window sill of the flat below and blood-stained tissues lay on the dirt.

A worker at Mayfair Laundry, in nearby Station Road, said: "They took a tall boy in an ambulance, but he didn't look injured.

"Everybody stops and stares if something happens. And if it's going to happen, it's always around this area. It's a shame."

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said officers were called to the area after a 41-year-old man was "threatening to self harm".

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that crews were called to the scene, to assist a man who had an injury to his neck.

The man's condition was unknown last night.
